My name is Robert Trybulec though many of the children at St Finians know me as Mr T.
Since I can remember (about the age of 5) I've always wanted to be a person that makes things. My fathers job was to make models of new products; and he often brought them home to show me what he'd made. Since then I've always been facinated to learn how things work... how everything works!
This love of learning and making inevitably lead me to a career in engineering - and let me tell you there is always a job for someone who knows how to get something made.
I started writing software for machines that helped to diagnose dyslexia, and a number of other medical devices, but I also got to make a few toys (Like Frantic Feddy Frog) in between.
Around 2006 I contributed to and wrote a substantial amount of software for the Active10 GPS device - This is when I started getting into big data processsing; manipulating the all the images that make up the maps for entire countries was no small task, especially back then when the iPhone wasn't quite yet released and few had heard of Hadoop (which is probably still true outside of my own techy bubble!).
I carried on making consumer devices and a few more medical ones, before I was haead hunted for a couple of roles in Telecommunications, (Arieso, O2 and currenly Vodafone). I got jointly named on my first patent, which involved cluster computing and started to give tutorials on a weekly basis to graduates on computer and data scienc topics.
No matter what job or role I had, the one task I always got the most satisfaction performing was passing on the knowledge and experience I had accumlated.
Teaching the children in years 4,5 & 6 at my childrens school, about my hobbies like 3D printing was great fun (most jobs in Telco's don't let you build much, and I've never lost my love of learning to make things; even if I have to do most of it in my spare time).
It is my hope (if there is enough interest) that I will be able to inspire a few students at St Finians with a love of technology and science in a more formal and regular way by running this STEM/STEAM after school club.
Wish me luck!
